Tips for Extending Life of Multi-Tool Blades

Blades are the heart and soul of multi-tools and taking good care of them is absolutely necessary to extend their life and get more for your money. This can be done by being careful while using them and storing the multi tool blades in a place which does not expose them to elements like excessive heat or cold and dust. Remember that though the blade can easily cut through wood, cement, and even metal, its actual strength is concentrated on the tip and exerting excessive pressure on that can reduce its life.

Usage tips – If your multi-tool is being used heavily, then try to adopt multiple movement method, wherein the oscillating tool blade follows both oscillation and side to side action, to ensure that the load is spread across all its teeth. When the load is spread across the blade, there’s less friction and the blade’s normal wear and tear reduces significantly.

When cutting or shaping hard materials like wood and metal, avoid moving the tool in only a single direction so heat does not build up. This will help your oscillating tools metal cutting blades stay strong for several years. Always use the right attachment to maximize usage and get the result you are looking for.

Right pressure during strokes – While cutting up a large piece of wood or metal, use long stroke motions and instead of applying pressure from the beginning, try to deepen the cut gradually with each stroke. This technique reduces build-up of heat and helps clean out dust around the cutting region, while application of light pressure extends the life of the multi tool blades. If the blade surface is heating up within a few strokes, then apply small dabs of lubricant to its teeth between strokes.

Storage and maintenance –Blades are expensive and to ensure that they last a long time, keep them in metal or plastic containers free of moisture. Always remember to clean your multi-tool blades clean of dust and sediments as these can reduce its lifespan.
